A tribute to the remarkable legacy of Lois Hamilton, a woman who turned her passion for creativity, art, and stamp collecting into a beloved hobby, business, and a source of joy for many.
Lois Hamilton’s life journey began in East Texas, where she grew up with humble beginnings, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the simple joys of life. From those early days, she carried with her a deep appreciation for art and an inherent curiosity about the world around her.
As a young adult, Lois embarked on a career with the phone company and later joined Humble Refining in the Payroll department. However, when she and her husband decided to adopt two boys, she made the courageous choice to prioritize her family and resigned from her position. Her dedication to her family and the desire to provide them with a loving home became her top priority.
As her boys grew older, Lois knew she needed a creative outlet to express her passion for painting and art. Combining her interest in stamp collecting with her artistic talents, she founded Ham Cachets, a venture that would become her true calling. Hand-painted First Day Covers became the heart and soul of Ham Cachets, a beautiful fusion of artistry and philately.
Lois’s creative process was meticulous and filled with dedication. Each new stamp provided an opportunity for her to delve into hours of research at the Baytown Library, learning everything she could about the subject. From there, she would create hand-drawn and hand-painted covers, pouring her heart into each stroke. The designs would then come to life on envelopes, either through delicate watercoloring or precise airbrushing. Her dedication to improving her craft led her to Lee College, where she embraced the techniques of the printing industry, enhancing the beauty of her covers.
Lois’s husband, a retired Exxon executive, found himself embarking on a new adventure alongside her. Together, they traveled to First Day Conventions and stamp events, cherishing the camaraderie of fellow cachet makers and stamp enthusiasts. Their shared love for Ham Cachets strengthened their bond and brought immense joy to their lives.
Lois cherished her family and friends deeply. Her journey from a childhood in East Texas, riding in covered wagons to town, to witnessing the advent of the Space Shuttle and the Internet, was a testament to the ever-changing world she lived in. Yet, throughout it all, her passion for creativity remained constant, fueling her love for Ham Cachets and the artistic expression it provided.

Please look it over. Your comments and suggestions about the Web site are most welcome. Don’t miss the “Customer’s Choice” page which features your favorite FDC from the last mail …
Since the last mailout I have made four trips: Laredo, Laughlin, Salt Lake City and Denver. The Convention in Denver was very nice, and it was fun greeting old friends …
My objective in creating the website is to provide an overview of Ham Cachets and some of the history of my Mother – Lois Hamilton. She truly loved her customers, the FDC industry, and her business. I learned much from watching her research, the creation process, and running the business.
